Mosaic Monday...Sanibel Antique Shop

While in Florida BigDaddy and I were on a quest for a mermaid.
Yes, a mermaid.
I've always had a fascination with mermaids. Not cartoon Ariel mermaids.
Not Daryl Hannah in Splash. I love the real mermaids.
The ones that Shakespeare wrote about.
The mermaids from Greek mythology...sirens luring sailors. I like those stories.

We visited Sanibel Antiques because they have everything. The hard part is finding what you're looking for,
every inch of space is taken.

It's really a step back in time, and I had to pull myself away from the 1970's memorabilia. I'm not sure why touching things that I've thrown out years ago makes me so happy. Should I stop throwing things away now... so that when I'm 80 I won't start re-buying things I threw away when I was 50??...

Just a thought.

The mermaid collection was scattered, and it took awhile to find them all.

I was looking for something reasonably attractive, and somewhat tasteful.
Hopefully a mermaid that wasn't losing her scales, and scowling.
It wasn't easy.

I eventually found her and promptly named her Minerva ( original, I know).

She now resides poolside in sunny Florida.

I miss her.
I feel I should go back to Florida and make sure
she's liking her new home.

"I have seen them riding seaward on the waves

Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown."

I'm linking up with Mary today for Mosaic Monday...!

  1. I absolutely love her! You might have to have your neighbors keep an eye out on her though. I have a feeling she'll be attracting a lot of fish in the sea (if you know what I mean) and before you know it there will be wild parties going on down there! :-)

  2. You certainly picked out a very nice mermaid. I'm sure she loves that new home.

  3. I love your mermaid. She is by far the one I would have chosen, too. The mosaic is awesome. I put a huge smile on my face. My favorite shot was the one for Oldsmobile service. I had one a while back and it was my favorite car ever. Sadly, being a Floridian and living in Virginia, I slid on black ice going only 5-10 MPR, slammed into three trees and totaled it. So Sad :-(
