In-between...

Early November is a strange time for me.
Halloween is over, Thanksgiving seems far away, and Christmas is even farther.
It's usually rainy, and the leaves aren't as pretty as they used to be.

What I'd really like to do is haul out the Christmas decor, but I share my nest with a man who believes a Christmas tree
shouldn't show itself until the week before Christmas.
And not a moment sooner.
He's never won this argument but I've compromised and I do wait until the day after Thanksgiving.
I believe my dear friend Rita is busy decorating her home this very minute!
I may need to visit her and bask in her Christmas glory...and her baked goods.

(It's only 50 days until Christmas...in case you don't know.)
How soon do you decorate for the Holidays?

  1. This is the first year I didnt decorate for Halloween, just a few sweater pumpkins I made, it was sad, but I was so busy making things to sell, I just didnt have or make the time. I'm hoping to decorate for Christmas right after Thanksgiving, I used to do it before, but the past couple of years, we have hosted Thanksgiving for my husbands family, and I like things to look fallish for that, so here's hoping I will get my christmas out by the first of December. 2. I don't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I like to savor the day (and not even think about Christmas). We usually have a large number of family over (22 last year) so it takes me several days to recover from the mayhem (as much as I enjoy it, it's A LOT of work hosting Thanksgiving)!

So, by the first week of December I am usually getting stuff out. Though, it's been a hard adjustment with no kids at home anymore. They were my inspiration for decorating and all the excitement of the season. Now, since all in college, they are only home for a short 2 week break. I just don't have a lot of motivation to decorate. I have found the past two years I have done less and less. I hope this funk passes because I absolutely LOVE going into other peoples homes with all the festive Christmas season decorations. Maybe I need to have some friends over for some Christmas cheer, could be the motivation I need to decorate.

This has gotten quite long winded...my apologies!

By the way, your photography is very good. I've enjoyed your blog for a while now and you just keep getting better and better and this whole picture taking thing!

  3. I am a lot like Cathy in that when my kids were young I had everything decorated and had started baking by December 1st. (Christmas cards were also mailed on the first.) Now with the kids gone, I tend to have the house decorated before they arrive a few days before Christmas and definitely don't bake before or else I'll be eating way to many cookies! Ha!
