Saturday Centus...

...with Jenny Matlock

Today's link-up is a Literary Device Challenge in Sensory Details.
I'm not sure why I chose to venture into the dark, perhaps thoughts of Halloween?
Here's the prompt...

Ghosts

Here it was, the home of my childhood. Nothing had changed.
The splintered floorboards, dusty windows, and the porch that never welcomed.

I listened to the heavy quiet.

Blood roared through my ears and my head pounded.
I ran my hand over the wood door and pain shot through me like an arrow.
I gnawed on my bottom lip, and the metallic taste of blood reminded me
of all the years spent within these walls.

I opened the door and the musty smell of memories was heavy.
I returned to my car with a prayer of thanks for my new life.

I'm joining Jenny today for her Saturday Centus.
Put on your literary hats and jump in!
This is only my second try at Jenny's many challenges.
(I hope I did it right1)

Now it's your turn...enter HERE!

  1. Oh this was very interesting and so intriguing. This would be a great story to continue some day to find out exactly what happened in this home. Good job.

  4. Well done! Lots of sensory stuff here, and a dose of darkness, too.

Glad her new life is treating her better.

  5. Oh it can't be your childhood home, it's my grandfather's hideaway, really! Ha ha, just kidding...this was just so cool, it came to life just like Jenny instructed us....kind of a cool assignment this week! Thanks so very much!

  10. A different take here, not good memories in the boards. Nicely done.

  11. It was something you'd tend to do, isn't it, go back to your past you've escaped from, just to see it again. Good job.

  13. Mary Elizabeth! There is no wrong or write to what you share!

I like the dark slant you took here. It's funny how our imaginations start at the same beginning and end up at such diverse places!

    I loved this.

Your writing is a joy to read!
