April 2011...

April wasn't a great month.
Looking back I realize this was the month I acknowledged the decline of my friend Lisa's health.
I acknowledged the possibility of losing her.

April put me in the hospital for a few days, and Lisa called me every single day.
When my cell phone lost power, she called my family.
She wanted to know what she could do.
I heard the concern in her voice, and I was humbled.
There aren't too many who would worry about someone else's treatable disease when their own body was without hope.
This was my friend, and I knew I was going to lose her.

In April I blogged about the simple stuff.
Too much clutter in my basement. The Royal Wedding. TeacherGirl's Shower. The coming of Spring.
Thoughts of another surgery. Easter. The comfort of my bed. Wedding response cards.

But I mostly thought about Lisa, and the random unfairness of life.

  1. Oh yes Mary Elizabeth - life is never fair is it - all one can do is to hold on to happy memories.

  2. This reminds me of my wonderful, dear friend who I lost not long ago... Hang in there!

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
