Jane Eyre!!

I cannot wait to see the new Jane Eyre movie.

The last movie I saw alone was Eat Pray Love.
Elizabeth Gilbert's book was much better than the movie, but that happens....often.
I was excited to be sitting in a dark theatre with red licorice, Raisinets, and a diet coke (all purchased at Target and hidden in my very large purse). I love to feel like I'm getting away with something.

I believe BigDaddy was watching another movie in the theatre next to me.
I much prefer separate movie viewing as opposed to hearing him sigh, mumble, and snore.
As a teenager I wouldn't think of watching a movie alone.
Being seen in a movie theatre without a girlfriend or a date was unheard of.
Thankfully my teenage friends didn't have a problem accompanying me to Saturday Night Fever for the fifth time.

Dear Tony ...you were amazing.
But I did feel sorry for Annette. Poor Annette, all she wanted was love.

With age comes a few blessings, and one of them is an "I-could-care-less-what-you're-thinking-of-me-alone-here-watching-a-movie" attitude.
I could do without the forgetfulness and the middle age spread, but sitting alone in a theatre munching popcorn
and sharing nothing
More than priceless I tell ya.

I began my obsession with Jane Eyre in the 7th grade.
My mother gave the book to me when she began worrying that all I read was Teen Beat and 16 Magazine.

I now appreciate her worries, but back then I couldn't imagine enjoying something my mother thought was good.
I tossed the book in the closet and there it remained until I came down with a virus.
I was too sick to go to school, but not so sick that I couldn't be bored.
I read Jane Eyre in two days, and then promptly read it again.

I loved it.

"Do you think me handsome, Jane?"
"No sir"

(I love it!!)

Moody Mr. Rochester, his insane wife, strong yet vulnerable Jane...these characters stayed with me for years.
And I actually forgot about my wish to marry Donny Osmond.

So I'm planning my trip to the theatre. I don't have any high hopes that this movie will be award winning.
I know the book is always better than the movie, but I'll give it a try anyway.
I believe The Lincoln Lawyer will be playing in the next theatre for BigDaddy's viewing pleasure.

And it's been awhile since I ate licorice.

Turn off my playlist at the bottom of my page if you'd like to watch the trailer...

  1. Believe it or not, I haven't read it, nor do I know the storyline, but the trailer looks interesting and if Judy Dench is in it, it must be good!

  2. I can't wait for it, either! I absolutely loved the book (it belonged to my older sister, so I started reading it in middle school - I don't even know how many times I've read it!) And I don't go to the movies alone very often, but the first time I did was in my 20s to see Lady and the Tramp. You can imagine the strange looks I got! But as you said, who cares??
    Wonderful post!
