Post Thanksgiving...

The kids spent Friday with us, and I did not force them to help me decorate.
Instead I made a lovely dinner that included a mega dose of red meat.

BigDaddy and I don't eat much red meat, other than an occasional Portillo's cheeseburger and a Gibson's steak. But I broke down and served up a rib roast. It turned out rather well, not that I'm bragging.

Although I will brag about my pumpkin pie...notice the little pastry hearts I painstakingly cut out and placed along the edges. Do you see them? They're sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar!

My children did not see them. They just ate them.
From now on Pillsbury will provide the crust for my family...so much easier.

We played a game that went on for hours. I don't remember the name of it, but I do remember all it required was a pen, paper, and a bowl.

I also remember that I was rather good at it. I can't keep up with these brainiacs in many areas, but I held my own. This doesn't happen often so I felt the need to blog about it.

My holiday decorating has begun. Due to the upcoming wedding, numerous parties, and the fact that I'm old, I've cranked it down a notch.
I laid out all my extra decorations in the basement and let the kids "shop" for free. They were happy, I was left with a clean basement, and I felt consciously green. {I am surprised no one took the Mickey Mouse Santa hat though.}

I think we'll continue with our Black Friday get-together.
The holidays are so hectic, and adding in-laws to the mix can be joyful, but it also causes too much stress.
There's only so many places you can be in one day, so hopefully my idea will continue to work.

Besides, I refuse to cook turkey.
Serving anything that comes out of the oven with legs attached bothers me.

Have a lovely weekend.

  1. What a beautiful family you have. It just continues to grow. A holiday can be any day of the year as long as your all together.

  2. sounds like a wonderful fun filled day. we are heading off in just a bit to get our tree. i so know what you mean about paring down the Christmas decorations. i have done it a little each year for the past three years or so. i still feel the need to do less so will probably not do as much this year...we'll see.

  3. This is a great idea. When the time comes I just might try it too!
Having "Black Friday get together" that is.
If you can't brag about being better than your kids at something/anything on your own blog where else can you?! Good for you!
